Clem Mc Mahon takes the win in Omagh

Victory in the GAIN Alltech Grand Prix in Omagh today stayed north as Clem Mcmahon took the win in the jointly sponsored Silverbirch Hotel class. Riding Athea Clover Trend he delivered a double clear in a time of 35.72 to lodge his first win of the 2023 series.

Owned by Derry Kingston and bred by John Joe Tierney the 10-year-old gelding is by Future Trend and out of Athea Clover Breeze. This combination took third place in the round at the Meadows in April. In total 16 took up the challenge, and from those six booked their place in the second round.

Current Champion Jonathan Smyth added to his leaderboard tally when he took second place with Crystal Graf, delivering a clear in 35.79. Bred by Ann’s late husband Anthony, Crystal Graf is a 10-year-old gelding by Lux Z and out of Lady Graf.

Catherine Thornton’s decision to take the longer lines with Coachella paid off when she delivered a clear in 37.72 for third place. Placed fourth in the round at Castle Irvine, Coachella is jointly owned by Thornton and David Campell and was bred by Tom and Linda Mcgee. The nine-year-old is by Ustinov. Dermott Lennon proved out of luck when he had one on the ground with Gelvins Touch in 36.55 for eventual fourth place. Owned by Victoria Loane the 17-year-old is by Touchdown and out of Whitestown Diamond.

Slotting into fifth place was Mackenzie Healy when she finished on eight faults in a time of 38.25 with Domar Van De Neerheide. Owned by McFadden Quine, the 14-year-old gelding is by Omar and out of Elfie.

Jonathan Smyth and Mulvin Lights out also had two on the ground in a time of 53.56 for sixth place. The 11-year-old gelding is co owned by the Smyth’s and Roy Craig. He is an 11-year-old gelding by Kroongraaf and out of the Diamond Serpent sired dam, Diamond Vic.
