John Floody steered Kings Best to his first Grand Prix win today when taking the HSI/Blue Grass Spring Tour at Cavan Equestrian Centre this evening.
Floody had been placed at several legs in the League so far this year and remains in contention with today's win moving him back into second place on the leaderboard on 29 points.
Riding Kieran King's Chamber gelding, Kings Best, Floody ran out a narrow winner of the €2,500 class sponsored by the host venue. Floody broke the beam at 36.65, just ahead of the League leader Daniel Coyle.
Without the incredibly consistent Uptown Girl due to the snow, Coyle had to rely on some of his more inexperienced mounts and in that, he also had a new mount in Javas Wild Child which he steered into second stopping the clock in 36.72. The Derry native now moves to 50 points, 21 points clear of Floody.
Emily Turkington slotted Allihies Diamond Boy into third place in her first Spring Tour outing of 2013 as they stopped the clock in 37.64.
Edward Doyle was once again in the placings with his home Stallion Samgemjee. The pair were previously placed at Killossery and Wexford Equestrian and Doyle now moves to fourth place on the Leaderboard on 18 points.
Home based rider, Mervyn Clarke took fifth with Dream Touch while Feaha Moore put her first points on the board for this year's Spring Tour taking sixth with HTS Coille Mor Chin.
The HSI/Blue Grass Spring Tour now moves to another double header weekend next weekend at Kernan's Equestrian Centre next Sunday followed by Upper Mace Equestrian Centre in Claremorris on Easter Monday.
